Thomas Ponticelli attended the University of San Francisco from 2016-2018 where he competed in the highly competitive West Coast Conference. He accumulated 236 innings pitched as a weekend starter in my 3 years at the University. Thomas was selected in the 12th round of the 2018 draft by the Cleveland Indians. During his time with Cleveland, he worked his way up through their farm system spending two seasons in AAA. After the ‘23 season, he was selected in the Rule 5 draft by the Colorado Rockies where he spent time in AAA.
Thomas has a passion for teaching younger generations in preparation for whatever level of baseball they desire. In a unique time in baseball there is an emphasis on pitching velocity. There’s no doubt that it is important as players progress in their careers but that is NOT what makes a complete pitcher. There is so many other factors that are neglected and it is my mission to make the most complete pitcher. If you are signing up for a lesson with me, we will focus on the following:
1. Emphasis on correct movements and positions in order to be as efficient as possible in your throwing mechanics.
2. Mentality: one of the most under looked factors when it comes to pitching. Your ability to persevere through adversity and difficulties you will face on and off the field. Focusing on your mental side by using breath work, visualization and other techniques to increase your confidence and competitive edge.
3. Pitch design: an awareness of what pitch best compliments your arsenal for success on the mound. Being able to communicate these and really talk through it with your athlete.
4. Pre and post throw warmup routines: the importance of these to keep your athlete on the field and prevent injury.
5. Having fun. The most important part of baseball is to always have fun. Baseball is a game it is meant to be enjoyed loved and cherished.
